Duke [vs. St John], University of Memphis [vs. Marshall], and St. Mary’s [vs. BYU] all WON!
I had the pleasure of attending the University of Memphis game at the FedEx Forum tonight and can I just say, the stadium and game absolutely blew me away! It was like attending the Southern Regionals all over again. The huge crowd, the intense cheers, the fun music courtesy of the sports band, the good pom-pom/cheerleader people, etc. It was AMAZING! I didn’t bring my big camera (because I’ve heard security there is strict on that) but I did bring my Canon point-and-shoot, and my iPhone, so between the two of them I have some decent shots and videos of what turned out to be a very suspenseful and engaging game! It was so much fun to see another team’s strategy and style of playing and compare that to Saint Mary’s (or CBU, a division II school, for that matter) and I enjoyed cheering them on!
They narrowly beat Marshall (GO TIGERS!) while I also “watched” SMC beat BYU (a bit suspenseful toward the end with all the fouls, and debris being thrown on the court…) via Twitter (thank goodness for twitter).
All in all, it was a fabulous night for my college basketball teams!
[I also went to dinner before hand with Stokes, Mary Kate, and their two friends, at this amazing Italian restaurant downtown and it was sooooo delish! Seriously amazing food and drink!]
This Duke vs. UNC basketball game is making me stress more than my Mangrove/Coral ID Test tomorrow…
UNC 60:65 DUKE
GOOOOOOOO DUKE!!!!!!
4:39mins left in the 2nd half…
DUKE WON! Yay! DUKE 79:73 UNC…D is for Duke, that’s good enough for me. DUKE DUKE DUKE starts with D!
…
This one is for the memories - Friends, Duke Converse, using stationary store markers without paying to decorate a poster, the thousands of people, the energy, Duke team, Duke fans who were the nicest ever, Duke-colored tank tops, and the fun times at Elite 8 2010 ♥
Duke won, it was an excellent game [i think Butler was 2 points behind]
That last shot was intense! I thought for a split-second it was going to go in, I was about to cry…
And now I miss basketball. And by the time the Gael’s fall season starts I will be in a foreign country :(
Butler vs. Michigan State
-I think Michigan State will win, despite Butler playing at home. Michigan State has the experience and the determination, which I think Butler lacks.
Duke vs. West Virginia
-I want Duke to win, despite almost everyone’s predictions being with West Virginia. If Duke keeps their focus and doesn’t miss like they did against Baylor, playing like they’re a #1 team, then they can do it.
updates:
Butler 52 vs. Michigan State 50
Duke 78 vs. West Virginia 57
*De’Sean Butler (WV) was unfortunately injured in the Duke vs. WV game, still waiting to hear details about what happened to his knee. I hear that he’s a great guy, not just on the court but off as well. Seeing him on the court floor, in agony, was really hard to watch. The coach cradling his head, really caring for his player as a person and not just as a player, was incredible. I hope and pray that De’Sean is going to be ok, no one wants to end their senior year like that.
“I’ve never seen a coach handle an injury like Huggs is handling Butler.”

Highlights from my trip to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Div. 1 Southern Regionals
“I’ve never been more proud of anything in my life than this team and this coaching staff,” Samhan said. “So it didn’t matter how it ended.” “Bottom line, when it was all said and done, I was proud of what we did this year,” coach Randy Bennett said. “I told them they we stunk tonight. … Nobody wanted it to go that way but it went that way.”

Why am I doing this? Maybe the following quote from Omar Samhan will help shed some light…
The community feels like they’re in the Sweet Sixteen. It’s such a bond we have with such a small town, you know people come up to me in the streets and say, “Do it for us!” It’s just crazy. I got the chance to talk to a guy at the grocery store and said he just lost his job. He said, “Hey man, I’ve been down the last few weeks and this weekend really cheered me up. I feel like a new man again. Thank you so much!” You don’t realize how much this means to the community.
