SMC Gaels vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs @SMC (McKeon Pavillion)
We NEED TO WIN (and most of the time the commentators need to shut the heck up).
Best competition on the West Coast. Both teams are undefeated in conference games this season. SMC is super awesome and way cooler than Gonzaga.
Let live blogging start:
BYU needs to go home and commentators need to shut up about it.
My ESPN2 feed is 30 seconds ahead of Dorothy’s (and other people on SMC’s campus).
We have beautiful australian boys and I love them very much.
Omar is visiting for the game! The Beast!
I’m sorry Gonzaga dude, do you always fall over like that, cause that sucks for you.
Gonzaga shooting 3s makes me so mad. Sacre annoys me.
We just missed a shot we should have made. Gaels you can NOT afford to be sloppy!
Ugh. Way to miss that Rob, you’ve been playing well, don’t let me down!
Oh Dellavedova, you make me so happy.
You can bet I’m rocking out to “Gael’s Gone Wild” during commercial breaks.
WHAT KIND OF CALL WAS THAT REF?!?!?! THERE WAS NO CONTACT! NONE! UGHHHH.
Halftime Report - SMC is up by 8! :)
Your TV better be on at 9pm EST and tuned into ESPN. I’m in the Caribbean on a remote island with only rainwater as our fresh water and I’ll be watching.
2011 West Coast Conference Championship game between the St. Mary’s Gaels and the Gonzaga Bulldogs
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE G.
The top two seeds in the WCC tournament split their season series with a pair of tightly contested games that were not decided until the closing moments of each game. Tonight’s rubber match has Gonzaga as a slight 1 1/2 point favorite, which is a spread befitting a game that should be filled with high drama.
The Saint Mary’s Gaels are led by WCC Player of the Year Mickey McConnell and his 16.5 points and 6.1 assists per game. However, on any given night they have several players that can step up and lead the team. Rob Jones and Matthew Dellavedova are averaging 13.6 and 13.2 points per game, while Mitchell Young is dropping in 10.4. Jones is the Gaels primary inside man as he averages 7.5 rebounds per game, while Young brings down 5.1 board per game.

DONT YOU JUST HATE THOSE MOMENTS WHERE YOU THINK YOUR TEAM IS GONNA WIN AT THE LAST SECONDS OF THE GAME AND THEN THEY DONT BUT THEY GO INTO OVERTIME AND THEN THEY LOSE
We’re tied at 40.
Come on Gaels!!!!!!! We need this win so much it’s ridiculous and I know you can do it so just keep pushing forward and play the great game I know you are capable of.
[in other news…the corals are coming along VERY SLOWLY. but better than before the game started because now im bribing myself with watching bits of the game as rewards for memorizing some lol]
UPDATE: Tied at 69 pnts with 4:58 left in the game. Also, corals are finally going well. Fingers crossed I’ll get in some more practice before the test tomorrow…
INTO OVERTIME
USD pulls a stunning upset over Saint Mary’s
San Diego entered last night’s game against the Gaels with all of five wins on the season. The Toreros cashed in on eight of their twelve attempted three pointers to take down SMC by a score of 74-66. Gonzaga now controls their own destiny in terms of a regular season title. Win their next four, and they at least earn a oo-WCC title. ~Slipper Still Fits [a Gonzaga site]
Dear SMC Gaels,
I am on a tiny island with 2 people from San Diego and 2 from Gonzaga. I would like to wear my SMC apparel soon. I still love you, just step it up. Because games like last night are just not cool.
Sincerely,
LM
…with this little bit of quote-ness I just found online. Fun times!
Steven Gray, 6-5 senior guard, Gonzaga: He has not been as good as I expected. I think people wonder if — because he’s involved in so many things off the court — maybe basketball is not a passion for him.
…..
Elias Harris, 6-8 sophomore forward, Gonzaga: He has been very disappointing. Coming off last year I thought he would take a big step and be terrific. Part of it is that he has been hurt and has to carry more of the load, but he has not played with the kind of energy that got my attention last year.

p.s. Just had an epic dinner (cute valentine’s day decor) and then played a hilarious game (involving love and marine organisms. so nerdy lol). Also, today’s topic for classes? Fish Reproduction. Too appropriate lol. By the way, learned more about fish reproduction than I EVER wanted/needed to know haha.
Oh AND I got to Skype with my Dorothyla. I love that girl <3
St. Mary’s College of California definitely just beat Gonzaga. Oh and did I mention that we were on the road? They. Lost. At. Home.
GO GAELS. It’s All About The G.
<3
~ESPN Power Rankings [SMC WAS IN THE TOP 25! Hello #24, I love you.]
I miss watching my Gaels so much and hope they kick some butt tonight.

GONZAGA BETTER LOSE THE ROAD GAME IN MORAGA. That’s all I have to say about it.
I just realized that I will be spending prime basketball season time aka Spring Semester in a foreign country, on an 8 sq mile island, with TWO GONZAGA STUDENTS. God, grant me patience. Oh and PLEASE help my GAELS kick some MAJOR Gonzaga butt. Thanks God! :D
Hollywood doesn’t want you and neither do we.
Stop the acting Niedermeyer, this isn’t drama class. Portland cant seem to stand up on their own two feet. Seriously. Niedermeyer (?) cannot stand on his own two feet EVER. He ran into Omar, who was just standing there, and just fell over. The refs are totally driving me crazy, and said it was Omars fault [moving screen]…such a lie!
Omar’s got attitude!
I love Omar today, he is seriously having a good game! Omar might have bumped Niedermeyer over in an “extracurricular activity” (the commentators words not mine)…ie they weren’t playing, the refs were calling something and Omar might have chest bumped someone over ☺
And, Omar might have thrown the ball into T, B or PJ Campbell (I found out it is TJ…haha) aka Gorilla haha. serves him right.
The referees are on crack.
Dellavedova has 3 fouls :( [5 fouls and you foul out] 2 of them were DEFINITELY not his fault, idk what the refs are on….he’s benched until later, I think the refs just don’t like him. That’s dumb, they should like him, he’s an AUSSIE!
Injuries are BAD
Omar almost killed his ankle. That was like painful flashbacks of Patty’s injury right there…I definitely stopped breathing for like a minute.
Maybe they’ll check his ankle since it’s halftime….
WHAT BASKETBALL PLAYER DOESN’T WEAR HIGHTOPS?!?
He almost gave me a panic attack, I swear…
First Half Results
Gaels v Pilots
Score at halftime: 26 (pilots) - 37
GO GAELS!
Portland Pilots have horrible last names…just saying.
Go Jorden Page! He just made an impressive basket!
Mitch, that basket was a tad sloppy but you made it. You’re still amazing.
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI!
Fact: since Bennett has been coach, we have had 10 Aussies
“Samhan has become a force” ~Commentator
They just showed Patty Mills picture and record…aww I <3 Mills forever!
TJ Campbell is 5’9” and 190lbs….GORILLA. and Sikma sounds like Cat sick. Can you tell I am not a fan of Portland?
FINAL SCORE 69 [smc] -55 [pilots]

SMC Gaels v Gonzaga Bulldogs
“The Gaels are No. 5 in the nation with a 40.9 percent three-point percentage and have what seems to be an unlimited resource of shooters. They even have another 6’11” forward/center who can extend his range to beyond the arc.” ~CBS Sports Partner
“Saint Mary’s coach Randy Bennett told Andy Katz last week that the Gaels would set out during the West Coast Conference tournament to “remove all doubt.”
A 69-55 semifinal win against a good Portland team might have at least taken out a big chunk of it, with No. 2-seeded Saint Mary’s advancing to today’s championship game against Gonzaga.
Matthew Dellavedova, Mickey McConnell and Omar Samhan each scored 16 points to lead Saint Mary’s. Freshman Jorden Page also scored a career-high 14 points and shut down Jared Stohl, the Pilots’ three-point specialist who was held to four points on made free throws. ”
