SMC Gaels vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs @SMC (McKeon Pavillion)
We NEED TO WIN (and most of the time the commentators need to shut the heck up).
Best competition on the West Coast. Both teams are undefeated in conference games this season. SMC is super awesome and way cooler than Gonzaga.
Let live blogging start:
BYU needs to go home and commentators need to shut up about it.
My ESPN2 feed is 30 seconds ahead of Dorothy’s (and other people on SMC’s campus).
We have beautiful australian boys and I love them very much.
Omar is visiting for the game! The Beast!
I’m sorry Gonzaga dude, do you always fall over like that, cause that sucks for you.
Gonzaga shooting 3s makes me so mad. Sacre annoys me.
We just missed a shot we should have made. Gaels you can NOT afford to be sloppy!
Ugh. Way to miss that Rob, you’ve been playing well, don’t let me down!
Oh Dellavedova, you make me so happy.
You can bet I’m rocking out to “Gael’s Gone Wild” during commercial breaks.
WHAT KIND OF CALL WAS THAT REF?!?!?! THERE WAS NO CONTACT! NONE! UGHHHH.
Halftime Report - SMC is up by 8! :)
And ESPN alongside everyone on Twitter agrees.
(just saying)
Your TV better be on at 9pm EST and tuned into ESPN. I’m in the Caribbean on a remote island with only rainwater as our fresh water and I’ll be watching.
2011 West Coast Conference Championship game between the St. Mary’s Gaels and the Gonzaga Bulldogs
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE G.
The top two seeds in the WCC tournament split their season series with a pair of tightly contested games that were not decided until the closing moments of each game. Tonight’s rubber match has Gonzaga as a slight 1 1/2 point favorite, which is a spread befitting a game that should be filled with high drama.
The Saint Mary’s Gaels are led by WCC Player of the Year Mickey McConnell and his 16.5 points and 6.1 assists per game. However, on any given night they have several players that can step up and lead the team. Rob Jones and Matthew Dellavedova are averaging 13.6 and 13.2 points per game, while Mitchell Young is dropping in 10.4. Jones is the Gaels primary inside man as he averages 7.5 rebounds per game, while Young brings down 5.1 board per game.

AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI!

time to GO WILD. [gael force red or you got to go!]
UPDATE:
GAELS GONE WILD! [smc 73: 62 scu] ♥ It’s All About The G ♥ We play again in Vegas tomorrow for the WCC tournament final (against either Gonzaga or USF, whoever is the winner of that game tonight, which should end around midnight EST). Time to put my SMC “It’s All About The G- Keep Hatin’” shirt on? I THINK YES.
KEEP HATIN’.

USD pulls a stunning upset over Saint Mary’s
San Diego entered last night’s game against the Gaels with all of five wins on the season. The Toreros cashed in on eight of their twelve attempted three pointers to take down SMC by a score of 74-66. Gonzaga now controls their own destiny in terms of a regular season title. Win their next four, and they at least earn a oo-WCC title. ~Slipper Still Fits [a Gonzaga site]
Dear SMC Gaels,
I am on a tiny island with 2 people from San Diego and 2 from Gonzaga. I would like to wear my SMC apparel soon. I still love you, just step it up. Because games like last night are just not cool.
Sincerely,
LM
St. Mary’s College of California definitely just beat Gonzaga. Oh and did I mention that we were on the road? They. Lost. At. Home.
GO GAELS. It’s All About The G.

Note by me: My GAELS BEAT SAN DIEGO [67-56]! It’s all about the G.

My Gaels are 22 this week.
aka I’m watching Mary Poppins! while in London (never thought this would happen)!
Today’s Highlights
-a lovely day out and about in London with Breezy, Brian and Brian’s wife and children (cutest kids ever. kids with english accents are adorable, and they were so well behaved!)
-delicious Italian food [pasta e fagioli and homemade ravioli. yum.]
-Science and Natural History museums rocked, especially the space exhibit. And I bought a 2011 calendar with epic photos from space/of shuttles…Hopefully it will fit in my suitcase to TCI.
-yummy blueberry froyo with raspberries, blackberries and chocolate brownie pieces at Snog to top it all off!
Other news/randomness:
-Hands and Feet Project in Haiti sent an email out with a look back/update of the past year. I know that when I posted a request for donations to help them out last year a few people who read this blog helped out. I wanted to say thanks for making a difference in the lives of some amazing children and that they are really doing well and continue to make improvements thanks to the generosity of others!
- I will blog much more about London next week/when I get back to America..I’m really behind as far as uploading photos go, but hopefully will get some up tonight and the rest up next week…
-I’m leaving for Paris tomorrow night!
-Despite the fact that I did NOT feel like applying to that last scholarship, I DID and I’m so glad I didn’t give up. I could win the scholarship, you never know.
-SMC Gaels vs. Santa Clara at 8pm! GO GAELS, kick some butt!
~ESPN Power Rankings [SMC WAS IN THE TOP 25! Hello #24, I love you.]
I miss watching my Gaels so much and hope they kick some butt tonight.

GONZAGA BETTER LOSE THE ROAD GAME IN MORAGA. That’s all I have to say about it.
I just realized that I will be spending prime basketball season time aka Spring Semester in a foreign country, on an 8 sq mile island, with TWO GONZAGA STUDENTS. God, grant me patience. Oh and PLEASE help my GAELS kick some MAJOR Gonzaga butt. Thanks God! :D
Time to bring out the Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi! chants and resign myself to “watching” the whole season via radio station feed online or if I’m super “lucky”, watch a playstation version on the Gael’s site (up for all the big games…better be up for us vs. Gonzaga in January or I will cry! You KNOW I will be up at crazy hours in England rooting for my Gaels. Partly because the Bulldogs suck. But more because God is a Gael. You know.]
The Gaels are off to a strong start with an 86-42 win over College of Idaho and 76-71 win over St. John’s!
College of Idaho Highlights
[Nov 12, 2010]

Clint Steindl scored a career-high 20 points and Stephen Holt had a school record nine steals
2010-11 season opener from McKeon Pavilion
In his collegiate debut, Holt was in the starting line-up and played 23 minutes. He filled the stat sheet with nine points, nine steals, five rebounds and four assists. He broke the school record for steals, breaking the previous record of seven, held by Carlin Hughes in Nov. of 2008. [say what? by the way, I miss having Carlin on the team, he was always a fun player. Congrats to Holt!]
Mitchell Young came off the bench to score 10 points and added a game-high eight rebounds. [excuse me? Mitch got playing time? wow…I’m impressed! go Mitch! ]
If there was one negative for the Gaels on Friday, it was their free throw shooting. Saint Mary’s was 18-for-28 from the line to shot 64.3 percent. [Boys, that cannot happen again. Remember how that’s Gonzaga’s weakness, well was, I guess I don’t know what their weakness is this year. But still, do NOT let your free throw awesomeness slip now, please and thank you.]

St. John’s Highlights
[Nov 15, 2010]

Clint Steindl hit a career-high seven three-points en route to a career-high 22 points
Steindl was one of three Gaels (2-0) to score in double figures, as Matthew Dellavedova scored 15 and Mickey McConnelladded 10. [that’s what I’m talking about Mickey! way to bring it, keep it going!]
Tim Williams had an impressive performance off the bench for the Gaels, scoring eight points to go along with a career-high eight rebounds. Williams was 4-for-5 from the floor, which included a monster dunk to give the Gaels a 53-40 lead with 4:39 left in regulation. [interesting….]
The game, part of ESPN’s Tip-Off marathon, began at 11 p.m. local time. That didn’t stop fans from packing McKeon Pavilion, many of them coming to jeer Lavin in his return to the bench. [don’t mess with the Gaels.]
Polee made a 3-pointer to give the Red Storm a 40-39 lead with 11:31 remaining, but Steindl answered with his fourth 3-pointer of the half. That sparked a 14-0 run by Saint Mary’s and gave the Gaels a 53-40 lead. [thats. whats. up. ]
The Red Storm made one more push and were within 68-62 on Malik Stith’s layup. They were forced to foul after that, however, and Dellavedova went 8-for-8 from the free throw line over the final 25 seconds. [ gooooo Dellavedova!!!]
