*There were pancakes for breakfast this morning! [normally I’m not a fan, but I ate some to make up for the fact that I didn’t have any on Pancake Day yesterday…and no, they were not proper european pancakes….sad times. but still, I was happy!]
*Worked at Calvary Baptist School this morning, had a fabulous time cheering on relay, sack and egg-on-spoon (rock on spoon in this case) races! Took some photos but not sure when they’ll get up because I still have like 200 other photos waiting to be uploaded and our internet has been super sketch, so they might have to wait until break in Provo next week…
*Providenciales, TCI in 6 days! We leave next Tuesday for a 2 day field trip to research the hotel/tourism industry and then it’s SPRING BREAK! [it will be hard to beat last year’s spring break in Houston/Austin, but I’m gonna try :) ]
*Today is going to have overwhelming amounts of work. I need to finish an excel project and some literature review summary things and I’m a bit behind. I’ve decided I’ll start after lunch, take a break to go snorkel (wednesday = waterfront activity!) and then come back and work super hard. Cross your fingers for me!
*My little sister munchkin (okay okay, she has a real name lol, Laura) got three smiley faces in school for good behavior!!! So exciting!! :D
Random environmental news…
*1 million sardines died near the Redondo Beach Pier, Los Angeles. Officials have stated it’s probably because they swam inland (trying to escape rough/cold seas) and got too shallow and died from lack of oxygen.
*In an article aptly named “Cracking Down on Croparazzi”, the New York Times brings to light a new bill (introduced by State Senator Jim Norman of Florida), which “would make it a felony to take a picture of a farm without the owner’s permission:
A person who photographs, video records or otherwise produces images or pictorial records, digital or otherwise, at or of a farm or other property where legitimate agriculture operations are being conducted without the written consent of the owner, or an authorized representative of the owner, commits a felony of the first degree.”
This makes me furious. Hopefully, when I’m not swamped with homework, I’ll have a chance to share more of my opinions on this piece of horrid legislation.
*An Albatross (one of the most awesome birds in the whole world), has become a mother at 60 years old. This Albatross, named Wisdom, is assumed to be the oldest wild bird alive in the world (the oldest bird ever was a 61.5 year old albatross but they lost track of her a few years ago and she is presumed dead). Wisdom has done a great job, not only surviving but reproducing more often than most albatross’ do!
Also, random bird fact: about five tons of plastic are unknowingly fed to chicks each year by their parents. Although the plastic may not kill the chicks directly, it reduces their food intake, which leads to dehydration and is believed to lessen their chance of survival. So please, keep your trash out of their homes!
