My bags are packed
My dirty towels have been set aside, waiting for me to strip my sheets in a few hours
My room is bare
Every single thing on my list has been packed into the proper suitcase
I have checked in and paid for my bag online
I strongly dislike the awkward time between when you’re packed and when you leave for the airport and no matter how many times I experience that time, it still sucks.
I am going to miss Memphis a lot. The students, teachers, friends, and people that are like family to me. Hopefully I’ll be back sooner rather than later.
Off to catch 2 hours of sleep before I have to get ready to head out!
Lee (asked of me when I mentioned I had to catch a bus in the morning…only in Nashville.)
Other news.
-My mother drove me over an hour to hang out with my friends Bethany and Micah today. I love Bethany to pieces and lived with her this past summer (talk about best roommates ever, her and her sisters rock my socks). Anyway, went to Gilroy outlets with them and bought a cardigan, dress, and tank top from Forever 21 for like 12 whole dollars (buy one get one free for clearance items). And had a FABULOUS time with Bess. I hate that she lives in Pittsburgh, PA because I never get to see her! :( But yeah, great day! (plus I tested out my new 50mm lens and am in love).
-Went to Starbucks for my free coffee of the day (I bought the daily-coffee-free-for-January-mug back in December)…they only had Pike’s and decaf and I hate both so they made me an Americano with an extra shot :D
-Dorothyla visited before heading back to SMC!!!!
-I am now cleaning my room, packing, and watching Castle season 3!
I am applying for this super cool, absolutely awesome, words cannot describe, program in Japan (aka JET) and I’m mailing the application to DC in less than a week. And the best part of that whole thing? The application is FINALLY starting to resemble the finished application! It was one of those situations where a lot of hard work had to be done for a long time, without seeing any results, and then all of a sudden it’s becoming a possibility. I love that realization. Every time.
This is the best LA trip I’ve ever had. Absolute best.
Yesterday (Monday) morning I got to take a trip back in time to first grade! Alright, not really…but I did get to take a trip to Munchkin’s elementary school! I had the awesome opportunity to watch/photograph the school’s Halloween parade, and then got to sit in her first grade classroom for a while, observing and chatting it up with the teachers. It was really nice to have the change to talk about teaching styles, benefits of certain classroom setups, teaching students in a bilingual setting, etc. Also, one of the teachers was a SMC alum and Gaels always the world!
Then, Cindy and I returned home and I got caught up on some homework and packed stuff so I could spend the night in Burbank with my friends Breezy and Ally. After a few random things around the house, we went back to pick up Munchkin & some friends, dropped them off, and come home.
Breezy met me at the house and from there we roadtripped it to the Disney lot to pick up Ally (from her first day at a super awesome job!) and then headed to their place to get ready for trick or treating (aka change into our awesome costumes), prep for the party (aka munch on snacks and talk Castle), and wait for a few people to arrive.
We headed out on what will definitely be one of my most memorable trick-or-treating excursions! We went to a very interesting person’s house (they weren’t home, so we couldn’t trick or treat there, but it was still cool), to an EPIC haunted house/maze thing (complete with a boat in the pool and titanic music) where they gave out full king-sized candies, parallel parked with MAYBE an inch in front and behind Breezy’s car (she has awesome parking skills. awesome.), sprinted (in a costume, complete with a mask that ensures limited peripheral vision) around a very crowded area while trick-or-treating at celeb houses, and headed back to their place to get the Halloween party in full swing.
We had every appetizer, finger-food, dessert, and drink imaginable. A few friends came over and we had a fabulous time talking, munching on food, and waiting to watch Castle “Cops and Robbers”. Although this was arguably the most epic part of the night, I cannot really explain why because a) words cannot describe and b) some info is not to be shared on Tumblr, no matter how cool.
But let me assure you, our Castle/Halloween party was cool. So so cool.
After a long party, a lot of talking, a lot of laughter, and a lot of food, we called it a night (or should I say morning lol) and headed to bed. This morning, after waking up, dropping Ally at Disney, and grabbing breakfast, we returned to the apartment and talked. About every subject under the sun. And it was much-needed.
I’m heading back to the SF Bay this evening and I must say, I’ve never been this sad to leave LA. But, it’s LA, it’s not the other end of the world, and I’m sure I will figure out a way to be back down here before I know it (and there are rumours of my friends venturing up my way soon!)
I have updated the theme for this blog (still not entirely satisfied, it may change a few more times before the night is up), and am now sipping tea on the couch in my living room. My real living room, you know, the one in my house in Sunnyvale. I love being home. Sure it’s not perfect, and sure I would fly to Oslo, Galway, or Tokyo in an instant if the opportunity arose but, while I have the chance, it sure is nice to be home.
I’m heading to LA in the morning, excited about spending the next four days in LA with some of my closest friends and family (Notice how I said some, not ALL, I still love my other friends, especially those of you who read this, you just won’t be there. No worries, we’ll still have epic adventures!) and Halloween is always a fun holiday.
Speaking of Halloween…this time last year I was busy having Halloween adventures with my Australian friend Amy and getting ready to go trick-or-treating with my favorite Irish family (the Joyce family!). I miss them all so much, especially Roísín, Hannah, and Elena (the kids). Kids are so fabulous, and those kids never failed to brighten my day! Plus, they helped me practice my Irish :) Go raibh maith agat!
In other news…I will soon be back to blogging about new stories, pop culture, and other misc subjects instead of simple life updates. After all, I think that’s more interesting for everyone. (Life in Moraga is only so interesting…a bit repetitive after two months…)
All 2,008 photographs I took in the Turks and Caicos Islands can be found on my FLICKR SITE under the albums “Life on South”, “Spring Break 2011” and “CMRS Field Trip”. Photos are organized from oldest to newest, so if you haven’t checked the albums recently, make sure to scroll down/visit the last page to see the newer photographs!
Thanks :)

p.s. Photos of my visits home (in January and May), as well as the Newsboys concert and Pittsburgh, PA will be up in the coming week…
Last night I had a dream about Connor Redd. I’ve though a lot about him since I have been in Australia; his smile, his carefree attitude, his strong character, his family in Arizona.
We have one shot, my friends. One chance to seize the day. That is the reality. That’s it.
I came to Australia…

Watching Bend It Like Beckham with four other girls in my room. It’s sooo much cooler after living in London and totally knowing the places and understanding more of the little side conversations that I missed when I didn’t understand some English and Irish phrases…I really miss it there, by the way. The Tube, the accents, the sights, and the phrases that just don’t sound the same in America (or, I imagine they don’t, I haven’t been in America enough to try them out haha)…and I still can’t believe that I saw Kiera Knightly less than three months ago!

Anyway, better get back to the movie, it’s getting to the good part! (there’s talk about Santa Clara University…makes me miss home…and remember that I hate the Broncos haha…)
…into 140lbs of suitcase. This gets so old after awhile.
Loud music? CHECK.
2 empty suitcases to fill? CHECK.
1 empty 20” duffle to fill? CHECK.
1 empty laptop bag to cram cram cram all random stuff into? CHECK.
Lots of crap all over the room? CHECK.
I’m not even going to bother doing laundry. Everything will just get washed again in America because I’ll finally have a normal washer and dryer (first time in 5 months, woot woot!)
